Interview with Nimu Harumi
The day I decided to create an account that would include part of my real name and some of my illustrations
Nimu, please accept my best regards!
Quickly, what is the origin of the name “Harumi Nimu”?
It’s a play on part of my real name and the date I decided to create an account to post illustrations!
Originally, I wanted to make it like my last name so that I wouldn’t have to wear it with others!🦄໒꒱· ゚
I think I can kind of, sort of, figure out where is part of your real name or the date you decided to create the account.haha
It is certainly a name that is not likely to be covered.
I have asked various creators how they name their products, and I feel that the way they name their products shows their personalities.
What do you think?
What is your working environment?
The software is CLIP STUDIO PAINT and Procreate and I use an iPad!
Nimu, you also use an iPad.
Is everything you do on your iPad?
Yes, I create all of my illustrations on an IPAD!
I often use CLIP STUDIO PAINT PRO for the main painting and processing.
Blue or transparent expression
How did you come to your current style?
Originally, I like manga and anime, and I often draw illustrations of boys and girls.
In terms of coloring and painting, I think my tastes in blue and transparent expressions are reflected in my work to a great extent!
The blue and transparency that Nimu paints is stellar.
Are there any other influences on your work?
Other influences on the expression of light and shadow come from foreign artists and Western paintings.
When you paint people, is there a specific order in which you paint them?
I want to determine the overall position and balance, so I basically draw from the face.
As for coloring, it varies depending on my mood at the time.
However, I tend to paint the skin first in any illustration!
I think many of the creators I have interviewed so far also apply from the skin.
This is to match the overall color system with the skin as the starting point.
I like painters who strongly express light and shadow, such as Rembrandt
I feel like many of your works have the faces (people) slightly in shadow, is there a reason for this?
I like Western paintings, especially those by Rembrandt and other artists who strongly express light and shadow, and I wanted to incorporate that method of expression in my own illustrations.
Rembrandt is known for its strong light and dark contrasts.
In photography, there is a portrait lighting technique called Rembrandt lighting.
It is used when you want to emphasize three-dimensionality and shadows.
Unlike Western paintings, my illustrations are deformed and more like cartoons, so I often put shadows on faces to give them a realistic atmosphere.
I would like to be able to draw illustrations in which the shadows give a sense of three-dimensionality and atmosphere, as if they existed there.
I was really bad at painting my hair
It seems like the way you draw hair has changed in your recent works.
I think it has changed quite a bit!
The hair paint is still developing, so I plan to brush up on it for a while…(*´`)
I was never very good at painting colors, especially hair.
It doesn’t look like that at all.
In the past, I used to paint in a fairly simple way that even I could do, but recently I wanted to express hair a little more properly! After trying various painting methods, I changed my painting method because the current method felt right to me.
The expression of hair now has a subtle change in color and a variety of looks.
It is wonderful that you are not afraid to change your style, but always aim to brush up your work and keep changing.
Although there are differences between illustration and photography, I would like to emulate this attitude in my own work.
What are your future plans for the OpenSea and foundation collections?
I am currently busy with illustration work and have not been able to work on NFT-related projects, but when things settle down, I hope to continue the “Cheerful Girls Collection” that I am currently developing and develop a series of single-picture series on the theme of boys and girls with chemo-eared ears on the foundation.
We have been able to come this far thanks to all of you who have been watching us
Is there anything else you would like to tell us other than the questions you have just asked?
I am very honored to have this opportunity!
I have been posting my illustrations on Twitter for about a year and a half now, and during that time I have received a lot of support from the many people who have viewed my work and given me kind comments!
It is thanks to all of you who have looked at my work that I have been able to come this far, and I will continue to do my best to produce work that will reach everyone’s heart as much as possible!
Any final comments for our readers?
My illustrations are still developing in many areas that are still lacking, but I have seen growth in the past year and will continue to grow and develop!
So, if you like illustrations of boys and girls or illustrations with a sense of transparency, I would be happy if you would pay attention to my illustrations! I would be very happy if you could pay attention to my illustrations!( ・ᴗ・ )⚐⚑⚐
Nim, thank you very much for your time today!
